What we do

                                                                                 Project Lidia Home
The children's home "Lidia" for children of the Hungarian ethnic minority is located in Târgu Mureş, Romania. The children's home currently accommodates eighteen children between the ages of four and twenty years. The children all have their own reasons why they stay in the children's home. Often the children can't live at home due to poor living conditions, or only one of the parents is present.

Through education, Lidia Home guides the children towards a promising future. The children have the possiblity to stay in the children's home until they have completed their  university studies and can stand on their own feet. At the moment  the children's home can offer the childeren shelter, food and education but - lacking financial resources- only to a minimum extent.

For a long time Evelien Tollenaar worked on a voluntary basis for Lidia Home. She saw with her own eyes how the children's home is struggling with a lack of financial support to provide the children with basic needs. The children's home is only able to provide the children with a shelter, sufficient food and education, but all of this is to a limited extent. The Butterfly Children Romania foundation has the motive to help Lidia Home financially, so that they can continue to provide the care that the children need.

In the coming years, the foundation will focus its financial support on improving:
  • Basic needs and physical health:  The children need more fruit, vitamins and meat in order to maintain their health. There are also regular costs for medication, dentists and doctors.
  • Education: Some of the children need more help and materials for their studies.
  • Mental health: Offering psychological help to the children where necessary through therapy in order to be able to cope with the obstacles that they have experienced.
  • Lodgement: The children's home needs a lot of essential renovations in upcoming years: This includes the renovation of the roof (there is currently serious leakage in case of rainfall), the bathrooms and the electricity system.
